September 1, 2026 – The MKE Urban Stables Board of Directors today announced the initiation of a planned leadership transition. Founding Executive Director Mary McIntosh will retire and conclude her service following the successful completion of a search for the organization’s next Executive Director.
Since opening its doors in 2020, MKE Urban Stables has grown into a trusted community resource, serving children, veterans, first responders, individuals experiencing mental health challenges, and others through innovative equine-assisted services that foster healing, learning, and community connection. The Stables also serves as the home of the Milwaukee Police Department’s Mounted Patrol.
Under Mary’s leadership, the organization has built strong community partnerships, expanded its programs and services, assembled an exceptional staff, and established a solid foundation for continued growth and long-term sustainability.
“This is a thoughtfully planned leadership transition,” said Ed Krishok, President of the Board of Directors. “Mary shared her plans with the Board well in advance, giving us the opportunity to launch a comprehensive search for our next Executive Director while ensuring continuity of leadership throughout the transition.”

The Board of Directors has begun the search process to identify the organization’s next Executive Director. The search is guided by a shared commitment to building on the strong foundation that has been established while positioning MKE Urban Stables for continued growth and impact into the future. Throughout the transition, Mary will continue serving as Executive Director, working closely with the Board, staff, donors, volunteers, and community partners to ensure a seamless transition and support the success of the organization’s next leader.
